Alamy launches ‘100% Royalties’ for students

Stock photo agency introduces industry-first initiative for students - and gives away all of its commission

In a bid to engage with the next generation of picture professionals, Alamy, the world’s largest online stock photo site, is launching a new initiative called ‘100% Royalties’. The campaign will see Alamy offering photography and design students 100 percent  royalties on all sales over a two year period.

Commenting on the scheme James West, Alamy’s CEO, said: “100% Royalties provides the next generation of creative talent with extra financial support without distracting them from their studies – and the response from the colleges has been incredible. It will also provide our customers with a new source of fresh and contemporary imagery – something they’ve told us they need more of.”

Alamy is renowned in the industry for having a photographer friendly approach and has received a lot of interest in the scheme from educational institutions specialising in visual media and design, who are eager to be involved. David Carpenter, Senior Lecturer in Photography, London College of Communication, University of the Arts London, added: “This is a brilliant initiative proposed by a forward-thinking company. It should enable the students to realise what’s required of them in the field of professional photography, whilst also offering them the potential to earn some money when starting out in the profession.”

Alamy is offering the scheme to 30 educational institutions in both North America and the United Kingdom, and will launch at the start of the Autumn 2011 term time.

Alamy connects thousands of designers, marketing departments, news desks and publishers with some of the best professional and amateur photographers around the world. Today, the site has 25.34 million images.
