Getty Images Continues To Drive Innovation With Cutting Edge Creative

Andrew Saunders is promoted to Senior Vice President, Creative Content

LONDON – 17 November 2011 – Getty Images today announces the promotion of Andrew Saunders to the position of Senior Vice President, Creative Content. The move, as part of Getty Images’ global strategy to further invest and develop its creative businesses, consolidates Saunders’ role in overseeing the development of content and products that Getty Images is continually evolving to provide contemporary imagery, video and music, which engages and inspires communicators around the globe.

Looking to the future, Saunders sees the current growth Getty Images is experiencing in the use of imagery online and on digital platforms, further accelerating as customers focus on increasing their digital presence.

He also predicts that the proliferation of stills, video and the growth of social media has meant a familiarization with a more accessible style of imagery. Getty Images’ own success with its Flickr Collection, a collection which was introduced in 2009 and has recently reached 250,000 images, supports the idea that this more immediate style of imagery will take a stronger industry foothold.

Saunders also says: “Video will grow exponentially as it becomes easier to capture and distribute, which, combined with its power to connect emotionally, will see video becoming a much larger part of communication. We will also increasingly see the combination of stills, video and music, so it’s important that we [Getty Images] showcase that we provide all of the above in one place.”

Saunders has played a key role in expanding Getty Images’ creative offering over the past few years, having introduced Thinkstock and Photos.com, as well as overseeing the evolution of iStockPhoto content within the Getty Images portfolio.

Jonathan Klein, Co-Founder and CEO of Getty Images said, “Andy has overseen the evolution of the Creative Content department through a technology revolution that changed the face of the industry, helping to maintain the best quality content for our customers. In addition to creative stills, he also leads our content strategy for both video and music. His impact on the reputation of our business and our entire industry cannot be overstated.”

Saunders began his career at Tony Stone Images in 1991, following five years as a commercial photographer. Within Tony Stone Images and subsequently Getty Images, he contributed greatly to the evolution of pre-shot imagery away from traditional stock photography, into the approach that Getty Images’ creative team implements today - a global creative team whose practices are more aligned with those of an advertising agency.

The announcement of Saunders’ promotion is testament to Getty Images’ commitment and passion to creating the best content, and continuing to innovate and develop the right products for its customers.
